This route includes key highlights such as Lava Tower, Barranco Valley and the Barranco Wall, culminating in a summit at Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. It is ideal for trekkers seeking a higher success rate and a more gradual ascent with breathtaking views throughout the journey.
Upon arrival in Moshi, you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to your comfortable hotel at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. Later in the day, you will meet your experienced guide for a thorough pre-climb briefing and gear check, ensuring you are fully prepared and confident for the trek ahead. This includes reviewing the itinerary, safety procedures and tips for pacing, hydration, and altitude awareness.
The rest of the day is dedicated to rest, relaxation and gentle acclimatization, allowing you to recharge after your journey. Dinner will be served at the hotel, featuring a nourishing meal to energize you for the climb, followed by an overnight stay in a cozy room to rest before the adventure begins.
Your adventure begins at Machame Gate, where registration is completed before entering a dense, humid rainforest. The trail is shaded by towering trees draped in moss, with the sounds of birds and monkeys echoing through the forest. The climb is steady but manageable, allowing your body to gradually adjust to the altitude. Along the way, you stop for a packed lunch surrounded by lush greenery.
By late afternoon, you arrive at Machame Camp, where your crew prepares a warm dinner. Meals are served in a dining tent, providing comfort and energy after your first trekking day. This stage is important because it introduces you gently to altitude while immersing you in one of Kilimanjaro’s most vibrant ecosystems.
Altitude: 1,800 m - 3,000 m
Distance: 11 km
Habitat: Rainforest

Leaving the forest behind, you enter the moorland zone where the landscape opens dramatically. The trail becomes steeper and rockier, surrounded by giant heathers and volcanic formations. The air feels cooler and drier, and clouds often drift below you, creating stunning views. You enjoy a hot breakfast before departure and either a packed or freshly prepared lunch depending on your pace.
By the time you reach Shira Camp, you’ll have your first clear views of Kibo peak. Dinner is served hot at camp as the temperature drops quickly after sunset. This shorter trekking day is designed to help your body adapt to the increasing altitude while allowing you to take in the changing scenery.
Altitude: 3,000 m - 3,840 m
Distance: 5 km
Habitat: Moorland
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
This is a critical acclimatization day following the “climb high, sleep low” principle. After breakfast, you trek through a barren, rocky landscape toward the dramatic Lava Tower. Vegetation becomes sparse, and the effects of altitude may start to be noticeable. Lunch is served near Lava Tower, giving you time to rest at high elevation before descending.
The descent into Barranco Valley reveals a surprisingly lush area filled with giant senecio plants, offering one of the most scenic camps on the mountain. Dinner is served at Barranco Camp, where you can relax and recover. This day is essential because it significantly improves your acclimatization, increasing your chances of reaching the summit.
Altitude: 3,840 m - 4,630 m - 3,960 m
Distance: 10 km
Habitat: Semi-desert
Meals: Breakfast, lunch at Lava Tower, dinner
The day begins with the exciting climb of the Barranco Wall, a steep but manageable scramble that requires some use of hands. Reaching the top brings a sense of achievement and incredible panoramic views. The trail then undulates across ridges and valleys in a dry, rugged alpine desert environment.
After a hot breakfast, you trek at a steady pace to Karanga Camp, where a hot lunch awaits. Dinner is served early to allow for rest. This is a relatively short day, intentionally designed to conserve energy and allow further acclimatization before heading to higher elevations.
Altitude: 3,960 m -4,035 m
Distance: 5 km
Habitat: Alpine desert
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Today’s trek is short but physically demanding due to the altitude and barren terrain. The landscape is harsh, rocky and exposed, with strong winds and little vegetation. After breakfast, you ascend steadily to Barafu Camp, your base for the summit attempt.
You arrive early in the day, allowing time to rest and prepare. Lunch is served upon arrival, followed by an early dinner. Meals here are lighter but energy rich to prepare your body for the midnight climb. This day is crucial for recovery and mental preparation, as the next stage will be the most challenging part of the journey.
Altitude: 4,035 m - 4,640 m
Distance: 4 km
Habitat: Alpine desert
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, early dinner
Your summit push begins around midnight under a sky full of stars. The climb is slow and demanding, with cold temperatures and thin air testing your endurance. As dawn approaches, you reach Stella Point and continue to the summit at Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.
The sunrise from the summit is breathtaking, illuminating glaciers and vast landscapes below. After a brief celebration, you descend back to Barafu for a light breakfast and continue down to Mweka Camp for the night. Dinner is served warm and hearty, helping your body recover from the long, exhausting day. This is the most rewarding and challenging day, marking the achievement of your goal.
Altitude: 4,640 m - 5,895 m - 3,100 m
Distance: 17 km

Lunch is either packed or served at the gate.
Upon arrival at Mweka Gate, you receive your summit certificate and say goodbye to your crew.
