Tanzania Accommodation Options for Safari, Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru & Zanzibar

Your accommodation should fit the way you want to travel. Some guests want simple safari camping and mountain tents. Some want comfortable tented camps and lodges. Others want luxury stays before the climb, after the climb, on safari or by the beach in Zanzibar.

How we plan it

We match the accommodation to the journey, not just to the price.

A Kilimanjaro climb, a Mount Meru climb, a Serengeti safari and a Zanzibar beach extension do not need the same type of accommodation. We explain each part clearly, so you know exactly what to expect before confirming your trip.

Kilimanjaro & Mount Meru

Mountain accommodation is about warmth, rest and practical support. Camping routes use expedition tents, while Marangu and Mount Meru use park huts.

Mountain accommodation: tents, huts and pre-climb hotels

For Kilimanjaro camping routes such as Lemosho, Machame, Rongai, Northern Circuit and Umbwe, accommodation is in strong four-season, expedition-style mountain tents. The focus is simple: reliable shelter, warmth, enough sleeping space and a clean camp setup after a long day on the mountain. Our crew prepares the camp with care so clients can arrive, rest, eat well and recover for the next trekking day.

  • Strong four-season mountain tents designed for cold nights, rain and wind.
  • Tents are set up by the mountain crew before you arrive at camp.
  • Camping routes include sleeping tents, dining arrangements and camp support.
  • On private climbs, the sleeping arrangement is private to your booking.
  • Couples can share a tent, and solo private climbers can have their own tent.
Important mountain note

Marangu route is different. It uses hut accommodation instead of tents. Mount Meru also uses park huts, mainly Miriakamba Hut and Saddle Hut.

Camping routes

Lemosho, Machame, Rongai, Umbwe & Northern Circuit

These routes use mountain tents. The experience is adventurous but well organized, with a crew handling setup, food and camp support.

Hut routes

Marangu Route & Mount Meru

Marangu uses Kilimanjaro park huts such as Mandara, Horombo and Kibo. Mount Meru uses Miriakamba and Saddle huts. These are shared mountain huts, not hotels or luxury lodges.

Before the climb

Arusha or Moshi hotels

Before climbing, we can arrange budget, mid-range or luxury hotels depending on your arrival time, comfort level and route briefing needs.

After the climb

Recovery stay

After summit, many clients prefer a comfortable hotel, lodge or spa-style stay before safari, Zanzibar or the flight home.

Safari accommodation: from camping to high-end lodges

Safari accommodation is chosen according to your budget, route and season. A budget safari can use camping tents, a mid-range safari can use tented camps and lodges, and a luxury safari can use high-end lodges or luxury tented camps in beautiful locations.

  • Budget safari: camping tents at public or special campsites depending on the itinerary.
  • Mid-range safari: comfortable tented camps, lodges and hotels.
  • Luxury safari: premium lodges, luxury camps and high-end properties.
  • Private safari: accommodation is selected around your own route and comfort level.
  • Joining safari: accommodation is usually based on the fixed group package.
Private tent request for joining safari

Private tents can be requested on joining safari options, depending on the final camping setup, space and availability.

Zanzibar accommodation: beach hotels, boutique stays and resorts

Zanzibar is usually added after safari or after the climb. It is not safari accommodation. It is a beach and island extension where the accommodation style depends on whether you want simple comfort, boutique charm or a luxury resort experience.

  • Budget Zanzibar: simple guesthouses or beach hotels.
  • Mid-range Zanzibar: comfortable beach hotels, boutique hotels and selected resorts.
  • Luxury Zanzibar: high-end resorts, private villas and premium beachfront stays.
  • Stone Town can be added before or after the beach depending on your flight schedule.
  • We can arrange breakfast-only, half-board or full-board where available.

Budget, mid-range or luxury

Three clear accommodation levels, one honest explanation.

You can keep one comfort level throughout the whole trip, or you can mix them. For example, you may choose budget safari camping, a comfortable hotel after Kilimanjaro and a luxury Zanzibar beach stay.

Simple, adventurous and cost-conscious

Budget accommodation is best for travelers who want the destination more than extra luxury. On safari this usually means camping. On mountain camping routes, it means expedition tents and full crew support.

  • Safari camping tents
  • Mountain expedition tents
  • Simple pre/post climb hotels
  • Budget Zanzibar guesthouses or hotels

  • Safari tented camps
  • Mid-range lodges and hotels
  • Comfortable Arusha or Moshi hotels

  • High-end safari lodges
  • Luxury tented camps
  • Premium hotels before or after the climb
  • Luxury Zanzibar resorts and boutique stays

The small things matter

Accommodation is not only the room. It is how you are cared for.

Good accommodation planning means knowing arrival times, road distances, park locations, meal plans, weather, luggage and what the client needs after long travel days, summit night or safari drives.

1

Before arrival

We check your flight time and recommend a hotel location that makes sense for your next day.

2

During climbing

Mountain camping is organized by the crew. On hut routes, we prepare you for shared park hut accommodation.

3

During safari

We choose camps and lodges around the parks, your travel month and the route you are taking.

4

After the adventure

We can add a comfortable hotel, luxury lodge or Zanzibar beach stay when you want to rest.

Accommodation questions

FAQs before choosing where to stay.

These questions are written for real clients who want to understand the difference between safari, mountain and Zanzibar accommodation before booking.

Yes. You can choose luxury accommodation before or after your Kilimanjaro climb. Many clients prefer a comfortable or luxury hotel before the climb for rest and briefing, then a softer stay after the climb before safari, Zanzibar or the flight home.
No. Most Kilimanjaro routes use tents, including Lemosho, Machame, Rongai, Northern Circuit and Umbwe. Marangu is the exception because it uses park hut accommodation.
The Marangu Route uses mountain huts, commonly Mandara, Horombo and Kibo. These are basic shared park huts, not hotel rooms. Clients still need warm clothing and a proper sleeping bag.
Mount Meru climbs usually use park hut accommodation, mainly Miriakamba Hut and Saddle Hut. The huts are part of the mountain experience and are more basic than lodges or hotels.
Yes. Private tents can be requested on joining safari options, depending on the camping setup, group arrangement, space and availability. It is best to request this before the safari is confirmed.
Budget safari camping is simple and adventurous. It is not luxury, but it is a real safari experience for travelers who want to reduce cost. We explain the campsite style, tent setup and inclusions before you confirm.
A lodge usually feels more like a permanent hotel-style property. A tented camp is often canvas-based and gives a stronger safari feeling, but many tented camps are very comfortable and can even be luxury level.
Yes. If you already have accommodation names you like, send them to us. We can check availability and build the itinerary around them, or suggest similar options if they are fully booked.
Yes. Many clients mix comfort levels. For example, you can do budget camping safari, a mid-range hotel after the climb and a luxury Zanzibar stay. We help balance comfort and budget honestly.
Yes. Safari camps, lodges and Zanzibar hotels can change prices by season, especially during high-demand months. Early planning gives more options and better availability.
