Route overview
6 Days Marangu Route overview
The 6 Days Marangu Route is the classic Kilimanjaro hut route. It approaches the mountain from the southeast and uses mountain huts at Mandara, Horombo and Kibo instead of camping tents. The route follows the same trail up and down, which makes it simple and direct.
Compared with the 5 day Marangu route, this 6 day version is a better choice because it includes an acclimatization day at Horombo Hut. That extra day gives your body more time to adjust before moving higher to Kibo and attempting the summit.

Safety and acclimatization notes
- The extra Horombo acclimatization day improves your chance to adjust before Kibo Hut and summit night.
- The summit push from Kibo is still very demanding because it starts around midnight and gains a lot of altitude quickly.
- Our guides monitor your oxygen level, pulse and general condition daily and keep a slow pace from the beginning.
- Marangu huts are shared, so bring warm layers, a good sleeping bag and personal hygiene items for comfort.
