A scenic gem stretching along the base of the rusty-gold Great Rift Valley escarpment, famous for its tree-climbing lions.

Lake Manyara National Park is a relatively small but highly diverse park. Ernest Hemingway once described it as "the loveliest I had seen in Africa." The park's centerpiece is a shallow, alkaline lake that expands and contracts with the seasons.
The dense groundwater forest at the park's entrance is home to large troops of baboons and blue monkeys. As you move towards the lake, the forest opens up to grassy floodplains where you might spot the park's legendary tree-climbing lions resting in acacia branches.
While an unusual behavior for lions across Africa, Manyara's prides have a peculiar habit of spending their days draped over the branches of mahogany and acacia trees to escape the heat and insects.
During the wet season, the lake hosts huge flocks of pink flamingos, along with pelicans, cormorants, and storks, painting the shores pink and offering exceptional birdwatching.
